Enhertu’s EU CHMP opinion: what changed, and what has not?
Keep the CHMP committee opinion and European Commission marketing authorization as separate dated events. Follow the original sources for each step.
Company claims are attributed to the dated sources below. ORION’s editorial checklist is explained in Coverage & method.
01 / SOURCE RECORD
What is confirmed
- AstraZeneca said on 18 September that the CHMP recommended Enhertu for EU approval as adjuvant monotherapy in a defined HER2-positive early breast cancer population with residual invasive disease after neoadjuvant treatment.
- The company linked the opinion to DESTINY-Breast05 and reported an invasive disease-free survival hazard ratio of 0.47 versus T-DM1. This is a study result for the specified population, not a prediction of commercial uptake.
- The announced decision was a CHMP opinion. The European Commission’s final authorization is a separate step.
Verify these points in the linked primary sources. Source language and numbers may be updated later; this page captures the dated release.
02 / INTERPRETATION
How we read the change
The research task is to keep the clinical evidence, the proposed label and the formal authorization separate. The opinion increases regulatory clarity, while real-world eligibility and adoption remain later questions.
What would change our view?
Compare any final indication and safety instructions with the proposed population and regimen. Access and use are separate evidence questions.
03 / NEXT CHECK
Questions to revisit
- What exact indication appears in any final European Commission decision?
- Do the eventual label and safety instructions match the population and regimen studied?
- What later evidence establishes access and use rather than merely authorization?
